​At P.S. 133Q, social-emotional learning (SEL) is embedded into the fabric of our school culture through the integration of the MindUp curriculum, the CASEL Framework, and our schoolwide CARES program. MindUp provides students with practical strategies to strengthen self-awareness, focus, and emotional regulation, fostering a mindful approach to learning and relationships. Guided by the CASEL competencies—self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making—we create intentional opportunities for students to develop the skills necessary for success both in and out of the classroom. Our CARES values—Community, Compassion, Creativity; Appreciation, Authenticity, Achievement; Respect, Resilience, Responsibility; Empathy, Embracing Differences, Encouragement; and Self-Reflection, Sportsmanship, Self-Management—serve as daily touchpoints for building a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment. Together, these approaches cultivate a school community where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
